Matthew Child

Matthew Child has worked at the Endangered Wildlife Trust and the South African National Biodiversity Institute as a specialist in the biodiversity economy, He has experience in mobilizing policy-relevant data and building information systems to ensure effective decision-making on the sustainable use and management of wildlife. Recently, he co-founded the Sustainable Wildlife Economies Project, which recruited young graduates to collect foundational information on wildlife ranches across the country and assessed the impacts of different business models, such as ecotourism and hunting. He has authored or co-authored twenty-four peer-reviewed publications in the conservation science field and holds a doctorate in wildlife management through the University of Pretoria. He is currently the co-founder and CEO of Rewild Capital, which seeks to channel carbon finance into the restoration and rewilding of African rangelands.
