Emirates Flight Catering LLC (EKFC) has partnered with Crop One Holdings, Inc. in a joint venture to build the world’s largest Hydroponic Vertical Controlled Environment Agriculture farm in the Middle East.
The farm, located in Dubai, is set to have the industry’s best performance metrics with the lowest operational cost and highest yield per square metre of any vertical farm in the world.
The 31,000 m² Controlled Environment Agriculture Facility building is anticipated to yield the equivalent of farmland two times the area of Dubai International Airport.
This state-of-the-art vertical farm will allow Dubai to reduce its reliance on leafy green imports by creating optimal growing environment for these plants all year round.
Vertical farming is a method of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions, in water, without soil.
With vertical farming, plants are grown in an entirely controlled environment — everything from the temperature, humidity, lighting, water, and nutrients are precisely monitored and controlled, maximising growth and yield and virtually eliminating any risk of contamination.
Vertical farming requires only 15 litres of water for 1kg of produce whereas traditional farming requires 317 litres of water for 1kg of produce - this represents 95% less water usage.
250,000,000 litres of water is saved every year versus what would be needed for traditional outdoor farming.

The Museum of the Future in Dubai is an architectural and engineering marvel. It confidently straddles the past and the future, applying advanced technology to traditional artforms.
The museum ‘speaks Arabic’: its facade is a canvas for the poetry of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum rendered in the calligraphy of Mattar bin Lahej.
The building’s form is symbolic: The circular building represents humanity; the green mound it sits atop represents the earth; the void represents the unknown future. It is a place of tolerance, inviting varied cultural, philosophical, social and spiritual outlooks. It is also a place of learning, exploring the challenges and opportunities shaping our times, and finding solutions for a better future.
A site tour for FHS delegates will be organised to the Museum of the Future.

The Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project (DTRP) is based at Burj Al Arab and Jumeirah Al Naseem and is run in collaboration with Dubai’s Wildlife Protection Office, with essential veterinary support provided by the Dubai Falcon Clinic and the Central Veterinary Research Laboratory.
The project has been running in its current form since 2004 and has so far seen the release of 2050 rescued sea turtles back into Dubai’s waters. In 2011 alone over 350 sick or injured sea turtles have been treated by the DTRP after being washed up on the regions beaches.
The DTRP is currently the only project of its kind in the Middle East and Red Sea region.
The goal of the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project is to;

A site tour for FHS delegates will be organized to Jumeirah Al Naseem Turtle Lagoon at 5PM on the first day of FHS.
