Sustainable Hospitality Challenge at FHS World

The Sustainable Hospitality Challenge (SHC) is an innovative initiative founded and owned by Hotelschool The Hague, dedicated to advancing both sustainable hospitality and broader innovation in the industry. For the past decade, SHC has inspired groundbreaking solutions that drive industry-wide change.

Their mission is to drive innovation that preserves the sustainability of our world and industry. By empowering future leaders, SHC pushes the boundaries of creativity, creating value-added solutions for the hospitality sector. Recently, SHC has adopted a unique multidisciplinary approach, involving top universities from fields such as technology, design, and hospitality.

Each year, students participate in ‘Shark Tank’-style pitches, presenting investable projects ready for market integration. Supported by C-level executives and leading tourism organisations, SHC fosters collaboration and investment in sustainable solutions.

New for 2025, SHC introduces two tracks:

  • Impact Track – A challenge to design the Hotel Room of the Future, combining sustainability, guest experience, and financial feasibility. Students are encouraged to merge engineering, design, and technology to reimagine the future of in-room hospitality. In collaboration with Guest Supply (a Sysco company), SHC has added a dimension to this track where students will explore waste-reducing technical innovations.
  • Inspiration Track – A stage for storytelling and social sustainability. Students, past participants, and young professionals are invited to share personal initiatives and perspectives that inspire more human-centered, inclusive hospitality practices.

Top teams from both tracks will present their ideas at two major global Travel & Tourism conferences:

  • World Travel Tourism Council (WTTC) Global Summit – September 2025, Rome, Italy
  • FHS World – October 2025, Dubai, UAE
